Probably what freaked me out the most was that WEIRD kid doing flips and then biting Bert's hand when he went into town asking about a hospital. That was bizarre and at the same time spooky. If I was in that situation, I would be high tailing it out of there, fast!" Carrie - 1976Starring: Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving Written by: Lawrence D. As for the fear factor, I'd give it an F. The hype around the movie was greater than the movie itself The plot line had some twists that kept it interesting, but I found it to be mostly predictable. I had the "bad guy" pegged very early on, though, it was obvious that the writer tried very hard to deter from that belief. All in all, a decent movie if you're not looking to jump out of your skin. This is definitely not a horror flick. Dark Night of the Scarecrow (TV)- 1981 Starring: Charles Durning, Robert F. Lyons, Claude Earl Jones Written by: J.D. Feigelson (screenplay), J.D. Anderson Category: Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy Running Time: 1 hour 37 minutes Language: English, French MPAA Rating: R Reviewed by: Burt Newman, Jr., Nashville, TN This is a movie I watched about 5 years ago and recently viewed again. The movie has a great premise and an array of good actors. The plot is decent and the special effects are not bad for movie that didn't have a lot of hype. The downside is in the character development and the movie deteriorates a bit as you get towards the end. This movie is only an hour and a half long and I think they tried to cram too much into that time period. If they had an extra half and hour to an hour, I think it would have been a much better film. They would have needed to change the ending somewhat too in my opinion. As far as scares, there are several good ones and the sound effects aid in this. All in all, I'd give it about 2 out of 4. Could have been really good. Started out that way, at least. Got to wonder about Sam Neill though. I don't think this guy set out to be a horror film actor, but think of all of the movies he's been in: Event Horizon, In the Mouth of Madness (see it if you haven't--weird), Omen: The Final Conflict, Dead Calm (another good thriller). He's a good 'un though. We'll keep him. Tip!: If you're looking to buy any of these, your most likely to find the best price here. Plus, it does have a decent story driving it and a few surprises to boot, so I give it high marks in those aspects. Cons: I happen to love eerie mood flicks like this one. However, if you're one of those who must have "jump out of your seat" scares to enjoy a scary film, you may come away a little disappointed. The biggest jumps like that in the movie were attributable mostly to a few well-placed sound F/X. Also, I feel more involved in the frights when the starring "victims" are people I like or can relate to which didn't really happen for me in this movie (though that is a very subjective thing). Overall though, I enjoyed this flick! Frankenstein - 1931Starring: Colin Clive, Mae Clarke, John Boles Written by: Mary Shelley (novel), Peggy Webling (play), John L.
